The film, the cast and what comes next
Adult Supervision, directed and written by Alex Schulman in his feature directing debut, follows three fathers who chaperone their teenage daughters on a school trip to a remote island, where tensions and resentments transform boundaries of authority, friendship and violence.
The cast features Gustaf Skarsgård, Fares Fares and Linus Wahlgren, with cinematography by Jakob Ihre. The production is by Warner Bros. International Television Production Sweden, with Christina Legkova as producer and Johan Hedman and Sofie Palage as executive producers; the film has co-productions and support from various Swedish companies and institutes and will be distributed in Sweden by Scanbox Entertainment.
Warner Bros. Discovery bought the broadcasting rights for HBO Europe and for the HBO Max platform in multiple territories in Central and Eastern Europe, with airing on these services expected to occur after the theatrical window.
Regarding the international reception, producer Christina Legkova stated that the film is "both darkly entertaining and emotionally honest" and she is excited to present it to global audiences during the festival circuit.
The international trailer for the film has already been released, and the cited sales came after the film's commercial release in the Cannes market, according to distributor Heretic.
JC Agora team commentary
Early sales and an agreement with HBO Max show that the festival circuit and the international market remain the path for Scandinavian auteur films to reach audiences beyond the premiere; the bet on a recognizable cast and a festival-first approach tends to speed up the flow of regional licenses.
